Both the files will be opened in the main panel, side by side in inline view mode which is comfortable for comparing the differences.Compare with a file on disk If you only selected a single file, a file selector prompt will show up to let you select which file on disk to diff against. How to start comparing files: click File in the main menu bar, select the New sub-menu and then select Code Comparison click Tools in the main menu bar. ![]() The command window has intelisense and everything so its actually easy to use. Then select Selected Files to see them side-by-side in the diff view. Visual studio will then open its compare window.
